Minor Skin Surgery

Dr Fiona Emerson and Dr Erika Mclean can provide treatment for a wide range of skin problems in our purpose-designed minor surgery theatre. Popular treatments include the surgical removal of moles, skin tags, cysts and seborrheic keratoses.

What treatments are possible?

Facial moles can be skin coloured, a mixture of skin and brown pigment, or brown containing hairs. Skin coloured moles can be safely removed from the skin by a technique called shave excision. This involves injection of a local anaesthetic followed by gentle shaving using a specialised blade called a Dermablade®. After 7-10 days of healing the skin gradually returns to normal skin colour. The Consultant team all have training in this technique and can provide good cosmetic results with rapid healing. Hairy moles and dark pigmented moles are better excised and stitched. We can provide advice on both of these techniques at the clinic.

Shave Excision of Moles

Embarrassing moles on the face and body can be removed using a specialised technique called a shave excision. This leaves a temporary skin wound similar to a graze that typically heals in 7-10 days with excellent cosmetic results. The procedure takes 20-30 minutes and can be performed on the day you visit. In some circumstances the mole may need to be excised and sent for Histology for further analysis if it appears suspicious, which will require an additional fee of £90.

Shave or Snip Excision of Skin-Tags

Skin tags often occur on the neck, eyelids, under arms and at other embarrassing sites on the body. We specialise in the removal of skin tags using a combination of surgical techniques. The procedure will take around 15-30 minutes and can be done on the same day as your visit. No stitches are normally required and the skin usually heals within 7-10 days.
